Lead Platform Engineer

You won’t be coming in to maintain someone else’s mess. You’ll be shaping how platforms are built, setting standards, making decisions that stick, and leading by example.

You will be a Lead Platform Engineer and act as a senior technical voice across engagements, influencing platform strategy, design decisions, and engineering standards. You’ll run technical workshops and design reviews with both client stakeholders and engineering teams, helping move things forward in a practical, hands-on way.

The work itself is what you’d expect at this level: building secure-by-default multi-cloud landing zones in AWS, developing GitOps-driven platforms, and creating internal developer platforms that give teams genuine self-service. A big part of the role is modernising legacy systems, moving them towards cloud-native architectures, improving reliability, and making them easier to operate. You will also drive cloud optimisation across complex estates and apply platform-as-a-product thinking to create scalable, reusable capabilities.
You’ll be working across observability and performance, bringing together metrics, logs, and traces using tools like OpenTelemetry, and helping teams get proper visibility into how their systems behave in the real world. Alongside that, there’s a focus on cost and efficiency, making sure platforms are not just scalable, but sensible to run.

This isn’t a purely advisory role. You’ll still be close to the tech, writing Terraform, shaping CI/CD, improving Kubernetes environments, and working directly with engineers to raise the standard of what’s being built.

You’ll help define what good looks like, from CI/CD and supply chain security through to operability and SRE practices. You’ll work closely with client teams to build platforms that are not just functional, but genuinely useful, something engineers want to use, not have to work around.
