"Playstation and Kubernetes: How to solve a problem like real-time"
Kubernetes can be a natural fit for hosting things like websites and APIs - but hosting something that requires sets of long-lived stable connections may not work as well in the shifting sands that is a Kubernetes cluster. Realtime video game servers are one of these things, as a group of friends would not enjoy being booted out of their 30 minute match because the pod they were playing in got autoscaled. At PlayStation we're trying to use an open source project, Agones, to run game servers in a Kubernetes cluster. We hope to get all the benefits that come with the Kubernetes ecosystem, without sacrificing the ability to provide great shared-world game experiences.
Bio: Joseph is a Senior DevOps Engineer working in Playstation's centralised technology team. He’s been using Kubernetes to run production workloads for over 6 years and he enjoys trying to solve company wide problems in a simple but flexible way, building common tools and platforms to simplify and speed up development.

"Are we building Cloud Platforms using the right metrics?"
Despite the excitement in the industry for Cloud Platforms, the truth is that they are often created without a strong Product vision, and they end up being either not fully adopted or overwhelmed with customer support tickets. Simone shared some key learnings that he borrowed from Product Management which have resulted in him set up successful Platform teams.
Bio: Simone is a technical leader who is specialised in enabling teams to work autonomously and continually and incrementally ship value to users.
He has spent the last two decades leading technical teams across startups and scale-ups with roles at the intersection of delivery, product, and technology (Now TV, Babylon Health, SecureSafe).
Bharat Reddy @ Accurx
Bharat Reddy, Software Engineer at Accurx, LinkedIn
Seeding a culture of devops from day 1 is really difficult but absolutely essential. Bharat explored some of some of the practices that helped and hindered his pace and reliability in meeting doctor and patient needs for the NHS, such as shortening feedback loops for quicker product validation, learning from incidents, and finding the balance in giving engineers the right amount of privilege to encourage good practice.
Bio: Bharat Reddy has 15 years of software development and deployment experience in both the finance and healthcare sectors. He’s currently a tech lead in the Platform Team at Accurx, where he’s building out the cloud infrastructure and development platform to enable the engineering organisation to rapidly build out the next generation of healthcare communication. He is absolutely hustling you when he claims he’s not actually that good at pool.
