Software Developer (SRE)

If you've ever looked at a production issue and thought, "there has to be a better way than this", keep reading.

Most SRE adverts talk about keeping the lights on. This isn't really one of those.

This is with one of the biggest technology businesses you've probably interacted with without realising it. The scale is eye-opening: millions of users, millions of requests every day, and a platform that never really sleeps.

They're looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to join a team focused on making systems more reliable, observable and easier to operate. Less firefighting. More building the tools, automation and visibility that stop fires starting in the first place.

What I like about this role is that it's very much an engineering position. They're looking for people who see reliability as a software problem, not just an operations one. You'll be writing code, building tooling, improving telemetry, automating repetitive work and helping engineering teams create more resilient services.

A few examples of the sort of things you'll get involved in:
 

• Building internal tooling and automation to remove manual effort
• Improving observability through OpenTelemetry, logging and monitoring
• Defining meaningful SLIs and SLOs rather than measuring things for the sake of it
• Creating dashboards that people actually use
• Working through incidents, understanding root causes and fixing problems properly
• Exploring how AI and LLM tooling can help reduce toil and improve operational efficiency

The tech stack isn't a checklist, but coding experience with Python, Go or JavaScript is necessary, alongside modern observability tooling such as Grafana, Splunk or New Relic.

They're also keen to speak with engineers who have operated within large-scale, highly available environments where uptime genuinely matters.

The biggest draw is the complexity of the problems. When you're supporting systems at this scale, small improvements can have a huge impact. It's the sort of environment where engineers get the freedom to solve interesting problems rather than simply react to them.
