DevOps Exchange New York City - January

DevOps Exchange New York City - ByteSage, Nobl9, iWiring

This week saw the DevOps Exchange host its first in-person event of 2024 hosted by digital-first homeownership company Better at their office in the World Trade Center.

We kicked off the New Year welcoming over 80 of you as we listended to the following speakers; Dmitrii Kosolapov from dedicated Managed Service Provider ByteSageAlex Hidalgo from Software Reliability platform Nobl9 and Dan Shoop from iWiring, a private consultancy.

On this occasion, we were not able to record the event. However, we have written a short synopsis of each talk below so that you can familiarise yourself with what was missed!

Finally, a huge thank again you to every single one of you who attended. Our next event will be a virtual event with the legend that is Gene Kim as he shares the key ideas behind his newly released book, ‘Wiring the Winning Organization’, which was released in November 2023.

Dmitrii Kosolapov, Founder @ ByteSage

In this talk, Dmitrii explored Mobiti, a software designed to streamline the migration of compute instances across on-premises and cloud environments with minimal effort and downtime. When paired with the services of Managed Service Provider ByteSage, this powerful combination allows for swift and efficient migration of compute instances or even entire infrastructures, eliminating the need for additional hires.

Alex Hidalgo, Principal Reliability Advocate @ Nobl9

While the concept of SLOs is familiar to many in the industry, there's still a lingering mystery: how do you practically leverage your SLOs and error budgets? The initial example from the first Google SRE book, emphasizing shipping features with budget and focusing on reliability when you don't, has limitations and may not resonate with most professionals.

In his talk, Alex dived into the broader significance of SLOs for everyone, including you!

Dan Shoop, Senior Manager of SRE @ iWiring

Last, but certainly not least, Dan joined us to explore the enhanced effectiveness of observability presentations, dashboards, and time series charts by incorporating multivariate data. He believes this approach enables the creation of relationship narratives that:

  • Convey a narrative through metrics and telemetry data
  • Facilitate rapid understanding of complex relationships
  • Highlight specific conditions

By delving into historical examples for illustration, Dan examined how similar methods can enrich visualizations. This improvement contributes to enhanced incident response, enriched analysis and reports, and the ability to succinctly explain intricate relationships.

Again, thank you to everybody who joined us for this event and a huge thank you to our speakers for their informative talks and our hosts, Better for hosting.
