DevOps Exchange July ft Wayve, Motorway, Slalom Build
DevOps Exchange London - July
A big thank you to all who joined us for last week's DevOps Exchange London event, hosted by Slalom Build at their impressive HQ in London Bridge.
We had a packed house and were inspired by talks from David Kirk, Platform Engineer at Wayve, Ryan Cormack, Principal Engineer at Motorway and James Gibbard, Principal Engineer at Slalom Build.
First up on stage, we welcomed David Kirk who dived into the successes, pitfalls, and lessons learned from building a high-volume online retailer's infrastructure from scratch.
David gave us an overview of what a Hybrid Development Environment is, including how he has implemented it throughout his career, the challenges he faced along the way and practical considerations for us all to think about in future.
Ryan Cormack then took the stage to explore how we can use various IaC tools to build applications without needing to manage any 'traditional' infrastructure or app code and what implications this may have.
Ryan provided an in-depth explanation of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), covering aspects such as validation, routing, and database integration. He also discussed future developments for IaC, including more specialised cloud integrations and the introduction of a new cloud-oriented programming language called Winglang.
Finally, James Gibbard from our hosts at Slalom Build dived into building and scaling Computer Game Development in the Cloud, including the challenges faced and how this drove innovation.
He discussed the present condition of the AAA game development market, the games and technologies currently being supported by cloud services, and the challenges (along with their solutions) encountered when transitioning to the cloud.
Thank you to all of our speakers for their insightful talks and to Slalom Build for hosting the event. We also extend our thanks to everyone who contributed to making it a success!
Our next event will be announced soon on our Meetup group. Make sure to subscribe so you don't miss the update.
We look forward to seeing you all again soon.
