August was an exciting month, as the AI Exchange returned for its latest event, bringing together a full crowd at another engaging session. This time, we were joined by leaders from Octopus Legacy, Amazon Web Servies (AWS), and Utility Warehouse, each sharing how they’re harnessing AI to drive innovation and tackle real-world challenges. From transforming the Death Tech space to scaling generative AI and refining customer service with chatbots, our speakers delivered powerful insights into the ever-evolving world of AI.
Our first speaker, Lee Nugent, (Octopus Legacy), shared how AI is transforming the Death Tech space, helping them quickly manage everything from drafting wills to probate, while maintaining a personal touch. Their "human-in-the-loop" approach automates routine tasks, enabling faster, smoother service during life's toughest moments.
Ahmed Roberts, (AWS) discussed how generative AI drives innovation, not job loss. He outlined its evolution: proof of concept in 2023, production in 2024, and scaling by 2025. Key uses include business optimization and customer experience tools like Amazon’s conversational search and Booking.com’s AI trip planner. He also introduced AWS’s GenAI Stack, including Amazon Bedrock, Agent Core, and Kiru for no-code app creation.
Anyi Guo and Ben Hicks (Utility Warehouse) showcased their AI chatbot for after-hours customer support. They shared their tech journey from LLM apps to a full RAG system, focusing on simplicity, cost optimization, and compliance. They wrapped up with two paths for the future: diving deeper into AI or using LLMs for simpler tasks like feature extraction.
