DevOps Exchange July - featuring S&P Global, Nutmeg and Smarkets

10/07/2020

July's DevOps Exchange was an event with a bit of everything - high-level DevOps strategy, live demos and tips and tricks on how to approach pesky auditing.

For this virtual event, we were joined by Carlos Gómez, Nutmeg, Mika Boström, Smarkets and tuning in all the way from Virginia, Aimee Bechtle, S&P Global.

You can now review all the talks and associated documentation below:

Aimee Bechtle, Head of DevOps & Cloud, S&P Global | @adbechtle
"Difficult DevOps Decisions"

You can download Aimee's presentation here.

As organizations navigate through a DevOps adoption they will be faced with many challenging decisions. In her talk, Aimee shared some of the key and difficult decisions that she has had to make, how she made them, and what the results were.

Aimee has over 27 years’ experience as an IT professional with a deep perspective on how to make technology and culture transformations successful. In 2019 Aimee was named to Techbeacon.com “DevOps Top 100 List”. Aimee lives in Vienna, VA with her husband of 23 years and their four children. She has her B.S. in Management Science from Virginia Tech, and a M.S. in Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.

Carlos Gómez, Senior DevOps Engineer, Nutmeg | @CarlosJuanGP
"Grafana 7"

You can download Carlos' presentation here.
Don't forget to check out the code repo for the live demo.

With every GrafanaCon a new major release of Grafana is presented. Better looking Metrics yay!
Alongside with Grafana, a new Logging system called Loki which is very lightweight, easy and cheap to run yourself has been getting more adept since it was presented early on Dec 2018. Taking off properly this year, adoption has increased significantly adding a new tool to help to monitor applications and infrastructure

Grafana 7 has, very gracefully, unified the 3 main UIs of the Observability pillars that engineers use to debug and monitor their applications - giving a single glance rich vision of the application and infrastructure telemetry.

Mika Boström, VP of Engineering, Smarkets
"Turn Auditing Pains into Operating Pleasures"

Download Mika's presentation here.

For those working on systems, CI or orchestration, audits can have a disproportionate impact on their work. Evidence requests. On-demand reports. Questions that feel all too similar. And once the report is returned, endless toil to address the various findings. With some thought, it doesn't have to be like that

Mika helps to run a betting exchange. At Smarkets, his various hats include Head of Security, DPO, VPE, and an all-round workflow badger.

DevOps Exchange Meetups will be back to in-person events as soon as we feel it is safe to do so - hopefully, sooner rather than later!

In the meantime, don't forget to follow DOX on LinkedIn and Twitter to keep up to date with all DevOps Exchange news.

DevOps Exchange would not be possible without LinuxRecruit - don't forget to check out our live vacancies, and don't hesitate to get in touch.
